Overview

This route takes you to the top of Green Mountain Trail and provides great views of Denver. About 1.5 miles of the run takes place on a steep dirt road and the rest of the run takes place on singletrack with some rocks and roots. Overall this loop pretty fun. It isn't super crowded on weekends, even given its proximity to Denver.

Runner Notes

These trails are often heavily used by mountain bikers, so stay alert!

The first 1.5 miles of steep dirt road is great area to practice your ascents/descents without worry of obstacles.

Description

Starting from the Rooney Parking Lot, take the Rooney Lot - Green Mountain Connector over the highway to reach a large intersection. Head left on the Green Mountain Trail and climb steadily as you pass the intersection with Box 'o Rox. Continue climbing on the dirt road until the junction with the Summit Loop Trail; here you'll want to take a right to remain on the Green Mountain Trail. Shortly thereafter, make another right onto the Rooney Valley Trail to begin a steady descent down Green Mountain via a rocky and rooty singletrack trail. Hook a right on Rooney Valley Connector and head straight through the next intersection to reach the overpass and the way back to the car.

Flora & Fauna

This area has been known to have rattlesnakes, so stay alert while running on trail.
