Runner Notes

Some sections with loose rock, proceed with caution.

Description

This trail has been changed and improved throughout the years and there are not as many rocks on it as the name might imply. There is one section that is less than a mile long with loose rocks smaller than your fist.

From the Rooney parking lot proceed across the bridge over C-470 and continue onto the wide, dirt road. This trail will start at your first left. As an alternative, you can cross the bridge and turn left on the paved bike path. Just before reaching the underpass you'll turn right onto singletrack.

In either case, run on singletrack uphill. This trail will merge into the Summit Loop Trail.

This is a great trail and is beautiful especially in the spring when everything is green.

Flora & Fauna

Plenty of prairie vegetation and small pockets of more greenery near a spring. As with all the trails in this area, keep an eye out for rattlesnakes.

This part of the trail can be muddy. Take care not to ruin the trail!

The beginning of Box 'o Rox trail is doubletrack but will soon change to singletrack. You can see I-70 going up into the mountains in the background.
