Runner Notes

Small, steep climbs, bits of exposure, no water.

Description

The trail starts off in Canyonlands Needle District at the Squaw Valley Trailhead. The trail starts off on a nice sandy section and leads up to some slickrock. Once on the slickrock, follow the cairns. The trails are marked very well at every intersection with signs.

The trail winds around on several rim sections. A ladder will lead you down one of the steep slickrock sections, and you can continue on a small rim. The trail then leads you down into a awesome wash with trees and sand. This part of the trail will take you by a backpacking campsite.

Continue on out of the wash back up on to the rim where you'll weave around the huge areas of slickrock and huge walls. Just the follow the cairns. At one point, you go through a small hole in the wall to lead you onto the next section. This trails has some small steep climbs and descents.

You finally come to a flatter area with a big canyon on your right; keep your eye on the cairns and follow them to a ladder that goes down into a crack. Go down the ladder into the canyon where you'll find a flat, sandy trail leading you to the other side of the trailhead where you find some rock art on the wall.

On the way back, just follow your steps back to the trailhead. Make sure you have plenty of water since there is no water on the trail.
