DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED DURING WINTER - December 1 through March 31.

During the winter (December 1 through March 31) this trail is part of Mt Spokane State Park's Nordic Skiing Trail System. Use is restricted to nordic/cross country skiing. A Washington state Sno-Park Permit is required for parking. Additionally the Special Groomed Trail Permit is required to park in the Selkirk Lodge parking lot for access to this Nordic Skiing Trail System.

During the spring, summer and fall months (April 1 through November 30) this is a hiking trail. A Washington State Discover Pass is required for parking.

Shady Way goes from a major trail junction - J5, where several trails meet, towards the Nova Hut area. Beginning in the beautiful conifer forest, the trail climbs but soon levels off. Here, there are impressive views of the mountains to the right/north. Enjoy these views over this relatively flat and straight section.

A fork in the trail is reached towards the trail's end. The right fork continues on Shady Way, and heads to Hemlock and Raven Glide, bypassing the Nova Hut area, to directly reach Lodgepole. The left fork is J4 Bypass that descends a short ways before arriving at the Nova Hut area, Lodgepole, and several other trails.

During the winter, as part of the Mount Spokane State Park's Nordic Skiing Trail System, this trail is groomed for classic and skate skiing.

Pretty conifer forest. Deer and moose are in the area.
