Runner Notes

Lots of rocks to watch out for and lots of nice climbs.

Description

Rainbow Loop Trial can be started from two different spots that are relatively close to one another. One is right off the main parking area through an old playground with equipment that's way past its prime. Another entrance, where this description begins, is from the old gravel parking lot next to the water reservoir.

From the gravel parking lot, you'll start running south. it's relatively easy at this point and within the first 1/4 of a mile you reach most recognizable feature that the Rainbow Loop Trail has to offer, the balanced rock.

From the balanced rock, you continue a southern trajectory. At the 1/2 mile mark, the trail starts to get rocky as it descends and turns northward. Around 3/4 of a mile, you reach the lowest point of the trail at its intersection with Spring Trail. From there you start to make your way up towards Ja Moo Koo Loop Trail. This loop can be accessed at two points along the Rainbow Loop Trail, the first entry is around 1 mile and the 2nd at ~1-1/8 miles.

After these intersections the Rainbow Loop Trail turns southeast, shortly it passes the top of Spring Trail and the top of Wild Trail at 1-1/4 miles before continuing on past the old playground.

I have written an article about Rainbow Mountain if you would like to learn more about this property, please visit my website HuntsvilleOutdoors.com.
