At 4,959 feet, Mount Defiance is the highest point normally recognized as being part of the Columbia River Gorge. While not one of the big Cascade Peaks, it offers some of the best views of Mounts Hood and Adams from northwestern Oregon. Mounts Rainier and St. Helens can also be seen as well as fantastic views of the Columbia River Gorge. It is the highest point in the Gorge and overlooks it right between Hood and Adams.
Half-Day Run: There are two ways to the views from the summit. You can run up from Oregon's Starvation Creek State Park for one of the most demanding day runs in northern Oregon or you can drive (check with the Hood River Ranger District first to be sure the road is open) to the trailhead on gravel Forest Road 2820 (Dead Point Road) and run up from there.
