Description

This is a 1.0-mile trail that gives you great views of the Columbia River Gorge. It is an out-and-back trail that makes a nice round trip of about two miles. There's an option to go up Mitchell Spur on a user trail for an up close view of the Gorge. The trail is fairly steep and there's loose rock so use caution and bring along those trekking poles. There's also poison oak so watch out for that or wear long pants.

To get here, take exit 58 (eastbound only) on I-84 just few miles west of Hood River, Oregon. There's no parking fee. The parking area has a picnic table and a bathroom. You'll see a paved trail headed into the woods. Follow this trail, into a forested area which then leads to a steep climb to the summit of Mitchell Point.

About a third of a mile into the climb, you'll see a trail headed off to the left that leads to Mitchell Spur. Continue on to Mitchell Point to take in the wide open views at the top and check out Mitchell Spur if you'd like on the way back.

The trail is fairly narrow and the summit has sheer drops on either side so it's not very dog or kid friendly.
