Need to Know

Dogs must be on leash December 1st to June 30th.
This is a mixed use trail that is very popular with mountain bikers. Be sure to share the trail.
This area lacks official maps, only has a few signs, and is covered in informal trails and private property. It's open so it's hard to get properly lost, but be careful and take Hiking Project with you.

Description

This trail offers some of the best views around from the top of the Coyote Wall ramparts. Most runners will take some combination of this trail and a doubletrack trail that it frequently crosses over and occasionally shares. For example, many runners will use the more direct but steeper doubletrack to gain elevation and then take this trail to various viewpoints.

To get to these two trails you'll need to take the Old Ranch Road Trail #4426 (Jeep Trail) about 1.75 miles, or the Little Moab Trail #4424 or Little Maui Trail #4425 to the Jeep Trail. The first third of a mile is very windy with some banked turns for mountain bikers (who typically use this trail for descents). After this it joins the doubletrack for a bit as it crosses under some power lines. It'll engage in some more switchbacks before rejoining the doubletrack. At about 3/4 a mile it will leave the doubletrack and hang very close to the edge of the cliff. Keep an eye out for the plaque celebrating the life of a mountain biker. Eventually it rejoins the doubletrack near the forest line. Finally the trail ends at Atwood Road. You can expect stunning views of the Gorge and Mount Hood, almost no shade, and lots of other hikers/bikers.

Flora & Fauna

Be mindful of rattlesnakes and ticks. Tons of wildflowers during spring.
