Description

The trail follows Coldwater Creek for about half a mile as it ascends to Emerald Lake. It's a less-traveled alternative to Duck Pass Trail and more likely to offer some solitude. Emerald Lake is surrounded by lush green meadows that led to its name. The lake is typically very calm and glassy offering you a reflection of the mountains and trees.

The trail keeps ascending steadily beyond Emerald Lake. Look back occasionally to enjoy a good view of Mammoth Mountain. Once you reach Duck Pass Trail, turn left to return to the Coldwater Trailhead or right to ascend to Mammoth Crest.

Insect repellent is recommended.
