Description

If you do not have time for the Chubb Trail or the Flint Quarry Trail but still want to experience the woods and hills of West Tyson Park then the Chinkapin Trail may be just for you. This trail begins at the Flint Quarry Trail trailhead and ends across from the maintenance building. A simple jaunt along the road will take you back to the trailhead parking lot. The trail is only mile long.

The quick ascent to the top will let you know if you are in shape or not. A large drainage with rock outcroppings is on the left as you climb the hill. Finally making it to mid-slope, the trail levels off and follows the contour for a short time. The woodlands are typical of a west-facing slope that you would find in the rest of the park. White oaks and Chinkapin oaks dominate the hillside. Just when you are getting use to running on level ground the trail begins a quick descent to end at the park roadway.
