Description

Hop onto the Centennial Trail for a wonderful, woodland experience amidst towering ponderosa forests and steep-sided ravines.

Starting at the Centennial Trail South Parking Area, descend moderately down smooth, dirt-treaded trail to the bottom of Reaves Gulch. From here, follow Beaver Creek past Curley Canyon, crossing the creek a few times before turning north (left) at a trail junction, after which the trail begins to climb steeply.

Continue to ascend the plateau for about a mile and a half, at which point the trail begins to contour the landscape through majestic ponderosa pines. Keep your eyes peeled for pronghorn in this area, as they have been spotted from time to time!

Eventually, the trail makes a junction with the Sanctuary Trail, at which point continue straight across on the Centennial Trail for another mile and a half to reach the northern parking area.

Those wishing to make a loop to their car can combine the Centennial Trail and parts of the Sanctuary and Highland Creek Trail for an all-day trek. Otherwise, leaving a shuttle car at the northern parking area may provide a more pleasant experience for less-rigorous runners.

Flora & Fauna

Ponderosa pines and native grasses dominate this landscape.
