Description

A shut-in is where a river or creek is constrained by rocks to create pools, rapids, and waterfalls.

Starting out of the parking lot, there is a narrower path with an interpretive trail laid out by a Boy Scout troop. This section of the trail is a little more rugged than should be attempted in flip-flops. The stops are all well-marked with numbers. As far as I can tell, the guide to go along with the numbers doesn't exist. It connects to the main trail below at a small waterfall.

If you take the wide, flat trail to the left from the parking lot, you cross the bridge to get the best view of the shut-ins. It brings you in close to swim in the water if you so choose. If, instead, you continue past the bridge, you see the upper section of McKenzie Creek which isn't nearly as nice. The trail will terminate across the street from a golf course.
