Description

To run Bonhoff Trail from the parking area near its trail start, cross the road and go through the gate. This will put you on Canada de Pala Trail. Run to the trail signpost ahead. The actual Bonhoff Trail start is to the right/west about 100 yards, for unknown reasons - i.e. no unique, wonderful thing to see or visit by going the short distance to the actual trail start. The long, interesting portion is to the left/southeast, and takes one into the trail system of Joseph D. Grant County Park, and is described here.

Bonhoff Trail is a beautiful, scenic ridge-side trail high in the tree studded grass hills of the Diablo Range. The hills rise to the left/northeast, and drop off to the right/southwest, providing gorgeous views of the lower hills of the Diablo Range. In the distance, one can see all the way to the blue Santa Cruz Mountains, including some of their highest peaks - Loma Prieta (3,790 ft.) and Mt. Umunhum (3,489 ft.). Nearby, several creeks begin here, and have carved pretty, wooded valleys down the hillsides to the right.

Heading southeast on Bonhoff Trail, one starts off with a short but steep climb, followed by a descent, and then repeat a few more times, to arrive at a major trail junction with Foothill Trail and Manzanita Trail. Bonhoff Trail ends at this major trail junction. Make sure to take your time to enjoy the scenery along the way.

Flora & Fauna

Grassy hills that are green in the spring, and golden in the summer and fall, dotted with oaks, some gray pines, and other trees. Big swooping birds.
