Need to Know

If you park at the Monastery, there is a 200 DRAM parking fee. If you are near the trailhead, just 200 meters before arriving to the Monastery, there is no fee and you can park along the road.

Runner Notes

Nice run, though short. You can also continue along the TCT.

Description

Start from the Haghartsin Monastery complex, one of the most mystical places of Dilijan National Park. This monastery is very famous and beautiful! What is most interesting is that it has been renovated with the help of an Arab Sheikh who fell in love with it while visiting the monastery.

You'll find the trail information at the trailhead, from where you'll enter the forest on a beautiful, newly built trail. Follow the Transcaucasian Trail (TCT) north to start. Some parts of this trail are very ancient and had been used to bring milk from the mountain farms to the monastery. Note: Many people miss the left turn onto the trail and continue down the dirt road. Keep your eye out for the turn onto the trail. It is just a minute or two up the dirt road after leaving the asphalt road.

After 1 kilometer of hiking on the TCT, you'll come to the junction with the Hidden Waterfall Trail. Go left at this junction and the trail will take you next to the river, and you'll think you're in a fairy tale. One of the national park's newest and most beautiful bridges connects this trail to the hidden waterfall. Cross the bridge and follow the trail another 80 meters to the waterfall, where you can swim and admire the cool and magical waters.

A new addition as of August 2023 is the restoration of the ancient trail that continued to the Monastery. You can now start just above the parking lot. The trail parallels the asphalt road and is a much more excellent option than walking on the busy road.

For a longer hike, after visiting the waterfall, you can take the junction with the TCT and hike on the TCT for as long as you like.
