Trail Run Project Logo

One of several ways to run the beautiful trails on the Berkeley hills. Great combination of uphill and flat trails.

There is no parking lot at the beginning of this trail. You'll have to find a spot along the sidewalk.

Overview

I love this run because if combines a strenuous steep trail for the first half with a shaded, less challenging flat fire road for the second half. Consider it as a starting point for exploring the amazing network of trails on the Berkeley hills. Once you complete this run, you can add variations and explore all the area options.

Runner Notes

Some of the climbs are very steep and require some agility. Be careful.

Description

The trail starts on Stonewall-Panoramic Trail, climbing on the side of the Claremont Road. The road ends after a few turns and, for a while, you'll be running on a very steep trail, steep enough that it can challenge even the best runners. The trail continues alternating short flat stretches with steep climbs, including fantastic views of the bay on of the Berkeley hills.

The trail then reaches a fork in the wood with four trails departing in different directions. Take the leftmost. It goes downhill and quickly reaches Upper Jordan Fire Trail, which heads north. From there, the trail is almost completely flat and mostly shaded. Now is a perfect opportunity to increase your speed and relax.

This trail is intended just as a suggestion to start exploring the vast network of trails on the Berkeley hills. Once you have completed this run, you can come back to the same area and start exploring the numerous trails connected to this one to create your favorite trail mix.

Flora & Fauna

Runing in the morning or late afternoon will expose you to several birds, rabbits ,and wild turkeys. Based on the season, you can enjoy plenty of flowers.
