Description

The Dead End, following blue blazes, strikes east from the Swamp Trail, across the power line and Cemetery Brook to Umpawaug Cemetery. Stretches along the way are fragrant with spicebush—it's small, pale yellow flowers brightening the leafless woods in earliest spring. Close to the cemetery, you'll cross an earthen dam, the pond now filled with sedge fronds wafting in a slight breeze, the concrete spillway attesting to a recent history.
