Need to Know

The fully serviced chalet is open only during ski season. Trail passes are required for use of snowshoe trails but when they are used during off season, there is no fee although donations are appreciated.

Runner Notes

People generally run on nearby Gosling View Trail. Snowshoe D4 would be more appropriate for strolling as the surface is uneven.

Description

After doing some climbing to get here, this easy trail gives some reprieve. It's a useful area on cold blustery days to avoid some of the open, wind-swept section of nearby D3.

Flora & Fauna

This bit of mixed forest is unique in having mature balsam fir as frequently as spruce. It was spared from the fire of 1985 but along the periphery is a transition zone of thick alders and saplings of birch, willow, cherry, and dog berry.
