Description

One of the many trails at the WVU Core Arboretum, Sheldon Trail connects to other paths in the lower part of the valley (including Cliff Trail, Nuttall Trail, Rumsey Trail, and Strausbaugh Trail). From the junction with Cliff Trail, Sheldon descends briefly before leveling out along the bottomland forest of sycamore, locust, and maple. This section of trail is great for wildflower viewing in spring.

After passing Rumsey Trail, Sheldon ascends steeply out of the river valley until it meets Strausbaugh Trail near the top of the arboretum. Link this with other trails in the arboretum to construct a variety of running loops in this excellent urban retreat.

Flora & Fauna

Blue violets, Virginia bluebells, sessile trillium, and white violets grow along this trail when in season.
