Rumsey Trail connects Sheldon Trail
in the lower Core Arboretum with Nuttall Trail
, Service Road
, and the Melvin Brown Trail
. In the lower part of the arboretum, this trail is mostly flat, paralleling the Caperton Trail rail trail as it passes through a forest populated by large sycamores, maple, walnut, and locust with pawpaw and numerous wildflowers in the understory. Heading uphill as it crosses Service Road
, Rumsey Trail begins to ascend steeply up a deep ravine carved by a seasonally flowing stream until it reaches the junction with Melvin Brown Trail
. Combine this trail with other trails in the Core Arboretum to create numerous running loops in this urban forest retreat.
