Milford Track: Glade Wharf to Glade House

Milford Track is typically accessed by boat (although there is Dore Pass Track that leads over the mountains, but it is rarely used). The boat will take you from Te Anau Downs to Glade Wharf. At the wharf, be sure to follow the instructions and rinse your boots in the provided soap containers to prevent any contamination of the national park with freshwater pests.

The track starts as a gentle run through the temperate rainforest. Before you leave, take a minute to soak in the scenery at the wharf at the mouth of Clinton River surrounded by mountains that are more than 3,000 feet taller than the lake. About three quarters of a mile into the track, the forest will recede and you reach a meadow with Clinton River to the left and Glade House right in the middle—with rewarding views all around.

The area surrounding Milford Sound is often buzzing with insects. Come prepared!
