Features Views

Access the trail from the fee-free Volcanoes Day Use Area parking lot, which is open from 9 am-5 pm. The area itself is open from sunrise to sunset, so if you come early or plan to stay late make sure to park outside the gate at the overflow parking area. There is no water, so bring your own no matter what time of year it is. The parking area does have a vault restroom and a couple of covered picnic tables. The park may close early in inclement weather.

Description

The trail itself starts at the parking area just east of the restroom and continues in a more-or-less direct route around the base of JA volcano to the scenic overlook. There are a number of covered benches along the path.

At the scenic overlook is an informational sign describing the Rio Grande Rift. From here, you can turn around and head back to the parking lot, or continue on the Black Volcano Loop.
