Overview

An out-and-back on a well-traveled route from the trailhead just south of the entrance to the rustic campground at Colton Point.

Late in the season, the creek is pretty low. You could wade across and continue the trail up the other side of the gorge if you wanted.

Description

It's easy to make a wrong turn and end up on a side trail that likely leads to one of the Pine Creek tributaries. If you feel like the run is somewhat treacherous, then you've strayed off the main route. Keep the Trail Run Project mobile app handy to stay on the route, linking the Rim Trail with the Turkey Path that descends into a creek drainage which bends east toward Pine Creek.

Flora & Fauna

We saw a Bald eagle perched on a cairn in the middle of Pine Creek.
