This is a great running trail with more elevation gain and loss than one might at first think. You'll know it when you're on the return leg.

The Gimble Trail starts at the northernmost point along Lewis Loops: Gyre. Think of it as a lollipop stick with the loop at the end. The trail begins by descending along a ridge to the northwest and then turns west, still descending, to where the actual loop begins. Note the bear scratches on madrones and the variety of plant life. Some endangered plant species can be found right along this trail, which is adjacent to the Research Natural Area (RNA). Filtered views of Mt. Ashland, Wagner Butte, and the Rogue Valley can be had through the dense trees.
