Due to nearby lakes and rivers, this trail system tends to flood late spring each year. If the trail system says closed, do not enter and return after the trail has had adequate time to dry. The CITA (Central Iowa Trail Association) website will have updates about all area closures.

Runner Notes

Watch your footing throughout due to the roots, rocks, uneven/packed dirt, and stumps. Be prepared for hills that will test your legs.

Description

This trail is the hardest within this system with lots of twists and turns. Be careful to watch your footing and be prepared to grind up and down some pretty big hills (for the DSM area).

Flora & Fauna

There are wildflowers, eagles, owls, deer, chipmunks, raccoons, squirrels, foxes, and an occasional coyote or wild cats. Beware of the poison ivy.
