There are very few stream crossings and most have some means of crossing without getting wet feet. The trail was very well marked, and it needed to be with what appeared to be very little evidence of traffic. The trail was well maintained other than several small logs down across the trail and new briar growth was an issue on the ridge top. This initial run was in the winter so maintenance level may be different in the summer.

This is a beautiful but difficult trail just minutes from Bluegrass Parkway. The trail begins at a small, gravel parking area with a kiosk that has a map of the trail and the trail rules. Climbing begins almost immediately up to the intersection at 0.67 miles where the decision can be made to go clockwise or counter-clockwise.

In the clockwise direction, the trail continues to climb to the top of the ridge and then follows the ridge around to the intersection with a very short spur trail to a lookout called "The Pinnacle". At this point, the loop descends into the valley before steeply ascending back to the intersection with the trail back to the parking lot.
