Avoid during breakup and wet times of the year. While some of the trail has been hardened with geoblok, even it can be submerged. The north leg tends to be wetter than the other areas and is not hardened.

Runner Notes

This is a trail to avoid during breakup or wet times of the year. Parts of it have been hardened with geoblok, but the north leg tends to be wet and is not hardened. The hardened areas may be submerged during breakup and other wet times.

Description

A relatively flat, wide trail. It is best approached from the Crevasse-Moraine Trailhead. This is a two-way trail although the preferred direction during ski season is clockwise. It is great for beginning skiers when decent snow is present. Most of trail is still firm underneath, even when wet because of hardening.

Flora & Fauna

Vegetation above the trail tends to be birch and spruce, typical of rest of the Matanuska Greenbelt system, while the center part tends to be colder and wetter with spruce and low shrubs, more typical of permafrost sites. (Some spots have late-lying frost, but not true permafrost.)
