Don't be fooled by its proximity to Las Vegas, there is still snow here in the winter. If someone could provide a comment about snowpack during the winter season and when this trail's summer use is best, it would be very helpful.

Runner Notes

Water available at Cable Springs, .5 miles past the trail termination, though you must filter/purify before drinking. 100% of the trail is beautiful, fast singletrack but there are significant sections of loose gravel/rock towards the bottom. Overall, this is a very fast, steep course.

Description

Follow Highway 157 towards Mt. Charleston. Go through the town past the fire station then make a right on Echo Canyon Road following signs towards Mary Jane Falls and Trail Canyon. Park at the Trail Canyon Trailhead.

From the trailhead, proceed two miles on Trail Canyon Trail through dense forest until it intersects with the North Loop Trail. You'll see a sign and a Y intersection. Along the way, this route will provide an unrelenting climb. While the trail isn't overly technical, you'll find your legs and lungs burning all the way to the top. Use some caution if you take this route on the way down, as the bottom can be slick with loose rocks or gravel.

Reverse the route to head back down to your vehicle, or continue on to Mt. Charleston.
