Runner Notes

At approximately 0.8 miles into the trail, there will be a fork. Go left, the trail dead ends if you go right.

Description

It has been said that the Los Alamos National Laboratory used to use Water canyon to supply water to one of it's sites (S-Site) located across from NM 501. If you mistakenly take a right at the fork approximately 0.8 miles into this trail, it will dead end at what is believed to be an old reservoir. You can still make out remnants of an old concrete dam. After the Los Conchas fire, one of the main pipes was exposed along the trail leading out of the reservoir.

Flora & Fauna

Seasonal stream. Aspens seem to be making a come back after the Los Conchas fire offering more shade. Bighorn sheep, deer, bear and elk have been sighted drinking from the stream.
