Description

From the south, parking is available at Whittleton Campground with a permit from Natural Bridge State Park. The trailhead is at the far end of the campground. This section of the Sheltowee Trace Trail follows Whittleton Creek to a road crossing.

From there you enter the Daniel Boon National Forest and continue up to a sandstone ridge, running roughly east-west. At the east end of the ridge, there are a few creek crossings before turning north again towards the Red River. This is first opportunity to refill water after leaving Whittleton Creek.

At the north end there is a swing bridge crossing the river, then a quick approach trail to the parking lot. If parking in the national forest overnight, obtain a backcountry permit from USDA Forestry Service.

Visit the Sheltowee Trace Trail website for more information on the entire 300 mile trail.
