Need to Know
Most of the
Pinhoti Trail (through here) is referred to as
Pinhoti 3; 3 refers to the trail's number from the Forest Service. Much of the trail (through here) is part of a mountain-biking system; watch out for mountain bikers (even though they are supposed to yield to hikers and horses).
Runner Notes
This section of the trail is benched well and has easy grades, over switchbacks.
Description
The trail enters the woods, 0.2 miles west of the
Cohutta Overlook, It winds over a series of switchbacks up to Turkey Mountain, then it winds its way down to Mulberry Gap. The trail turns right onto Conasauga (or Holly Creek Road). The trail turns left (back into the National Forest) and winds its way up to Holly Creek Gap.
