Take on a challenging climb on the Benton Mackaye Trail from Weaver Creek to Rocky Mountain.

Features Fall Colors

Overview

This out-and-back is a rewarding, tough climb to Rocky Mountain on nice singletrack. There are some nice views in the winter.

Need to Know

There are no facilities at the trailhead or along the route so plan accordingly. There are a few small creeks near the trailhead for water. White diamonds mark the trail. The area has spotty cell service. The trailhead is easy to drive to but not heavily used like some other trailheads in the area.

Runner Notes

There is a minor creek crossing near the start. This makes for a nice hill workout.

Description

Runners will enjoy this singletrack climb up the Benton Mackaye Trail to Rocky Mountain. Overall, the trail is a nice singletrack with a rigorous climb on the way out. The footing is mostly good with some rocks and leaves to watch out for.

Pay attention to the white diamond blazes, especially the double diamonds that will be found at intersections and sharp turns. Look for the sharp left turn at 1.7 miles from the trailhead. At 2.9 miles, Stanley Creek Trail joins the BMT.

This is a nice run with occasional good views from the ridgeline and Rocky Mountain, especially in the winter when the trees are bare. After enjoying the views from the summit, head back to start, retracing your steps for a nice long downhill to finish up your run.

Flora & Fauna

Mountain laurel thickets.
