Overview

This is a great out and back run combining Rice Canyon and East Canyon and taking runners all the way up to Mission Point. You'll enjoy absolutely sunning views when you reach the top, both of East Canyon and Mission Point, which is the top of Rice Canyon.

Need to Know

The trails can be incredibly slippery after the rain, so make sure to wear proper footwear. Parking is $5, or you can park on the street!

Description

This run combines both Rice Canyon and East Canyon for a great run in the Santa Clarity Woodlands. From the parking area, the trail starts on the East Canyon Mtwy, a wide trail that climbs gradually for the first half mile. After a half mile, you'll come to a junction with the East Canyon Trail. Turn right onto this trail.

The East Canyon Trail climbs more steeply up Rice Canyon. The trail crosses the creek multiple times. Depending on water level, you might need to do some jumping or expect wet feet! After about a mile of climbing, the trail ends, and you'll want to retrace your steps back to the junction. Be aware that after turning around you'll have a short, steep downhill section to navigate on the East Canyon Trail.

Once back to the junction, turn right back onto the East Canyon Mtwy and continue climbing. You'll pass the some restricted access property, but there's a well defined path around it. The next 2.5 miles are all a steady uphill, until you reach the Sunshine Canyon Trail and the grade levels out for a bit. Catch your breath and connect onto the Mario DeCampos Trail which will take you up to the Mission Point Spur. Enjoy the expansive views from the top!
