Almost entirely stairs, Riverview Trail is only about a half mile long, but the view over the Mississippi is worth it.

Need to Know

There is a short gravel driveway and loop to park in at this state park. There is also a primitive toilet, informational kiosk and a few not well weathered picnic tables. Anyone with knee or leg issues or stability problems probably will not be able to make it to the top as the climb is very strenuous.

Description

The trail is almost entirely stairs, with many being of irregular height and length. The stairs, which are the main feature of John A. Latsch State Park, climb through thick woods on steep bluffs and are quite beautiful in the fall.

There are a couple of lookout points along the way and at the top of the ridge that overlook the Mississippi River, its floodplain and Lock and Dam No. 5.

There are very few places to sit and rest on this climb other than just on the stairs, but once you get to the main overlook, there is a lovely place to sit near the edge of the bluff.
