When traveled from Hay Creek Trail to Black Bear Trail, this is an entirely uphill run. The trail leaves Hay Creek and heads up along a granite outcropping and then through several small meadows and tree-lined lanes. Turkeys are a frequent sight, along with the occasional deer.
About 2/3 of the way up, the trail passes alongside the remains of an old corral. Finally, after going fairly straight for the last mile, and approximately a quarter mile from the top, the trail trends from right to left as it meets with Black Bear Trail.
