Description

From the parking area, take the Access Trail to get to Los Cerritos Trail. At the end of the Access Trail is a signpost marking Los Cerritos Trail. Go right here to run Los Cerritos Trail. To the left, Los Cerritos Trail leads to Figueroa Trail.

From the end of the Access Trail, Los Cerritos Trail starts off as a flat trail through the grasslands of Calero County Park. To the right (northeast), the terrain is flat, providing unobstructed views of McKean Road in the distance. To the left, rise the wooded and grass hills of Calero County Park. After a short ways, Calero Reservoir comes into view ahead. About 0.8 miles from the end of the Access Trail, Los Cerritos Trail reaches Calero Reservoir and begins to follow its shoreline. As the shoreline bends left (west), the trail also bends left and climbs a ridge.

About 1.7 miles from the end of the Access Trail, Los Cerritos Trail reaches the ridge top, and veers left (southeast) to follow the ridge top. This is a grassy ridge with stands of oak and a few buckeye trees. As the trail climbs along the ridge top, it leaves the views of McKean Road and other civilization behind. A gorgeous view of the western end of Calero Reservoir nestled among the wooded and grass hills, can be seen.

Los Cerritos Trail then makes one final short but rather steep climb before ending at Pena Trail.
