Description

This is one of two trails within the Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge. The 1.3-mile loop begins and ends at the visitor center parking lot, looping around the northern portion of the wildlife refuge amongst the habitats of local songbirds. Along the way, enjoy multiple options for shoreline access and plentiful bird watching. The trail is a wide dirt path with little-to-no change in elevation.

Beginning at the parking lot for the visitor center, the trailhead is shared by the Flint Point Trail and the Ocean View Loop Trail. These two trails split at 0.1 miles, where you'll want to turn left to follow the Flint Point Trail. This trail has fewer open views of the water than the Ocean View Loop Trail. Instead, the dirt path winds amongst high bushes and low trees that host a variety of local birds.

At 0.6 miles, the Flint Point Overlook platform can be reached just off the trail to the left. From the top, enjoy a view of Third Beach and the mouth of the Sakonnet River. Continuing around the eastern side of Sachuest Point, the trail reaches another overlook at 1.0 miles with views of Sakonnet Point and the Atlantic Ocean. At 1.1 miles, you can connect with the Ocean Loop Trail to continue around the southern end of Sachuest Point or turn right to continue on the joint Flint Point Trail/Ocean View Loop Trail and return to the visitor center parking lot.

Flora & Fauna

A large variety of birds can be seen and heard along this loop.
