“A nice and short trail that provides good views of the park.”
— Doug Baer
One benefit of this route is that it's not a very crowded trail. When the Wind Cave Trail
is insanely crowded, you can get a good workout by taking this trail a few times and not needing to constantly wait to pass groups on the trail.
This trail goes up and over Merkle hill and bisects the Merkle Trail
. It provide access to the Merkle Trail
from a parking area on the north end of the hill, south of the Wind Cave Trail
parking area. Unlike the Merkle Trail
, this one is not accessible. There are rocky parts of the trail, switchbacks, and loose gravel.
