A challenging run on well-maintained trails with extended views of Four Peaks and Weavers Needle.
The first two miles climbs over 1000 feet from the Sunrise Trailhead to a saddle below Sunrise Peak. Stay on the Sunrise Trail
for a little less than half a mile to the intersection of the Andrews-Kinsey Trail
This trail is a joint effort of the Scottsdale and Fountain Hills preserves. I followed it for two miles to the border of these two towns, although it can be followed into Fountain Hills where a fairly major trail system has been established.
The the remaining miles on the Andrews-Kinsey Trail
is relatively level as it follows the contour as it winds between several ridges and the intervening washes between them. Eventually you'll come to a rather steep descent, and you can choose to had back beforehand, or descent all the way to the Andrews-Kinsey Trailhead. Just remember if you don't leave a car at this trailhead, you'll have to retrace your steps!
Granite boulders, large saguaros.
