Runner Notes

This flat trail is great for running, but keep an eye out for other trail users.

Description

Bike Path #4 initially began as a bridle path in the late 1800's when visitors rode horses through the park. While horses are a less common sight today, the path is still a pleasurable way to enjoy the outdoors. Leading from Glover Road to Beach drive, the paved multi-use path provides a shaded way to move from one side of Rock Creek Park to the other. The route is popular, especially during the summer months.

Western Ridge Trail Moderate (upper). Some trunk-jumping and semi-steep descent/ascents.
Mar 23, 2019 near Washington, DC
Western Ridge Trail southern fork for Moderate (upper), Strenuous (lower). Suggest taking Strenuous north since it's easier to climb the Strenuous trail rockface than crab-walk it down. Return loop via the Moderate Trail.

Westen Ridge Northern Entrance (at Pierce Mill) for either Strenuous (lower) or Moderate (upper). Best to take Moderate south and come back Strenuous. Easier to climb Strenuous rockface than crab-walk down.
