Description

Located on the Niagara River, these three falls form the highest flow rate of any waterfall in the world. In fact, Horseshoe Falls, at a 165 ft vertical drop, is the most powerful waterfall in all of North America (measured by height and flow). In total, more than six million cubic feet of water cascades over these falls ever minute during high flow.

The three falls of Niagara Falls (Horseshoe Falls, American Falls, and Bridal Veil Falls) were formed when glaciers receded at the end of the last ice age (110,000 to 12,000 years ago) and water from the Great Lakes carved through the Niagara Escarpment, on its way to the Atlantic Ocean.

Short Walk: There are a few boat cruises you can take into the center of Horseshoe Falls. You'll find a list of them here.

If you'd rather see the falls from land, simply take the Niagara Gorge Rim Trail.
