Overview

Upper loop is the half-marathon. The complete figure-eight is the full marathon. The course winds through tall pine stands and alpine meadows, then breaking down into the Skyliners valley. From Skyliners Trail return to the finish on Swede Ridge via the Tumalo Ridge Trail with views of Mount Bachelor, Tumalo Mountain, and Broken Top Mountain!

If encountering snow pack, take short steps and go slowly

Description

Begin uphill from the Swampy Lakes Sno Park, running on the Swampy-Dutchman Trail. You may encounter snow pack on the trail from miles 1 through 6. The course rolls climbs through tall pine stands towards Tumalo Mountain, turning on Flagline Tie at the base of Vista Butte. Crossing Flagline Tie turn downhill on Flagline Trail into the lakes flat.

Turn right on Swampy Lakes trail to Swede Ridge Loop Trail #53 then left onto Swampy Lakes Loop Trail heading across the north side of the Swede Ridge. Cross Forest Road 4615-100 at the aid station near Swede Shelter, onto Sector 16 Trail #27. Follow Sector 16 Trail #27 past Shooting Star Shelter. Crest both humps of the Skyliners Ridge before dropping sharply down towards Skyliners Trail.

Turning left onto Skyliners Trail make your way to the village of Skyliners and onto the Tumalo Creek Trail. Stay left on Tumalo Creek Trail to get on Tumalo Ridge Trail and climb up to the top. Look out across the Tumalo valley and across to views of a snow-scrapped Broken Top Mountain and Mount Bachelor! Return to Swede Shelter on Tumalo Ridge Trail then right turn onto Swede Ridge Loop Trail #53 taking you back towards Vista Butte and the final left turn onto the forest road.

Head down the road 1 mile to the finish just off the Swampy Lakes Sno Park.

Flora & Fauna

Elk and mule deer may be encountered on the route (leave them alone, please :D ) Spring wildflowers in the Skyliners valley and near the Swampy Lakes meadow
