Need to Know

The first few sections of this trail are ATV and Snowmobile trails; please be aware of other trail users. Fires are not permitted at Neil Tillotson Shelter and camping is only permitted at designated sites. The water source at Neil Tillotson Shelter may be unreliable; plan your fill-ups accordingly.

Description

This part of the Cohos Trail starts from the junction of Deadwater Loop Road/Cedar Stream Road. It follows Cedar Stream Road for nearly 6 miles before turning off to the left. At the bridge crossing, the trail turns into the Lake Francis Trail and follows this all the way to Carr Ridge Road. At the road, take a left over the Connecticut River. This is a popular area for anglers. Turn right (onto the grassy snowmobile trail); this is the River Road Trail. Follow this to snowmobile junction 139 then follow the road left until you come to the Minnon/Young Trail (ATV Route).

Here, along the Minnon/Young Trail, you'll have the opportunity to resupply at Young's General Store. Continue to Hill Road, then take a right out to Route 3. Cross over Route 3 and ascend Danforth Road. Be sure to stay right at all road junctions until the very last house. Here the trail takes a sharp left up a steep and rocky road. When you reach the next intersection, look left down the road for the Border Trail.

The Border Trail is a short trail that travels along the edge of a property until it reaches the Mount Prospect Trail. Make sure to check out the view while atop Mount Prospect. After descending to Lakeview Road, the trail turns into Ramblewood Link. This will take you to Partridge Path, one of the Ramblewood Cabin trails. Follow this left to Snowmobile Trail 139, then take a right. In a short distance, Covell Mountain Trail will be on your left.

Covell Mountain Trail follows a series of Ramblewood Cabin trails, so just stick to following the yellow Cohos Trail blazes. From the cul-de-sac at the end of Round Pond Road, follow Round Pond Road southward. At the outlet for Round Pond, turn left onto Round Pond Brook Trail. Along this trail, you'll pass by the Neil Tillotson Shelter. Follow the Bog Bridge Trail and the Moose Alley Trail Falls In The River Trail will be the last trail for the Connecticut Lakes section of the Cohos Trail.
