Portions of this trail share with the snowmobilers; use caution when running in the winter. Hunting is allowed in Freedom Town Forest, so where blaze orange and use caution during hunting seasons.

Description

This trail starts west off Shawtown Road (signed as Trout Pond 1.9 miles). In a short distance, there's a kiosk (signed as "Red Kiosk") and a yellow gate (late spring to early fall). The trail continues for about 0.4 miles, then the snowmobile trail comes in from the left; a left at this junction will take you to Junction A in the Scrub Oak Scramblers Trail system. Jackman Ridge Trail continues on then reaches Junction J after climbing a hill. Here a trail heads off to the right; this is Mary's Mountain Bypass (a snowmobile trail which is signed as Mary's Mountain Trail) which winds below the summit of Mary's Mountain.

A short distance from Junction J, there will be a sign for Mary's Mountain Trail (on right). This Mary's Mountain Trail is part of the Freedom Town Forest trail system and is marked with blue hiking medallions. Many of the trails in this area carry similar names; it is important to know which one you're on.

The Jackson Ridge Trail continues on, takes a large turn west, then shortly heads north; Along this northbound segment the trail intersects with several trails including Trout Pond West Spur, the Old Pequawket Connector Trail (at junction W), and the U-V Trail (at junction V).

The trail winds east then southeast, reaching Trout Pond East Spur (on right) about three miles along the trail; The Trout Pond East Spur takes you right down to the pond. From here, the Jackman Ridge Trail descends to a junction referred to as "Three Fingers" and ends at the "Blue Kiosk".

For this area, I would recommend the Freedom Town Forest map, Scrub Oak Scramblers map, and Ossipee Pine Barrens Map as back-ups to the Trail Run Project mobile app.

Flora & Fauna

Flora: Sugar Maple, Beech, Eastern Hemlock.
