Runner Notes
More Cowbell makes an excellent short trail run, and can be combined with other Gooseberry trails to make a longer route.
Description
This is a 3-mile loop that's relatively flat and offers incredible views of the surrounding landscape. It winds around the rim of a mesa and passes alongside other trails that are all popular with hikers as well as mountain bikers.
You can expect to see views of the Pine Valley Mountain range, surrounding mesas, and the towering temples of Zion National Park. The trail hugs the mesa's edge for much of it's length, so stay aware of the cliff edges and tripping hazards. Overall it is an easy run with just a few small ups and downs on relatively smooth trail.
Start by making your way down from the parking lot on a short section of Deadringer trail before quickly hitting More Cowbell, which is signed and follows an obvious path. In the surrounding vegetation you can see prickly pear, sage, and other desert plants that bloom in the spring and summer. Midway through the run there is an obvious viewpoint that overlooks the Hurricane Valley and surrounding mountain ranges. As you start looping back towards the car, you'll see the West temple rising out of Zion National Park in the distance.
Flora & Fauna
Desert sage, prickly pear, and yucca thrives here. Jackrabbits, lizards, and many small birds live among them. Red tail hawks patrol the air. and if your lucky you may see a coyote in the area.
