Overview

This run will lead you to Feather Falls, a 400-foot tall waterfall on the western edge of Plumas National Forest.

The falls is best observed from a platform towards the bottom. You can take both Feather Falls Scenic Trail - Upper Route and Feather Falls Scenic Trail - Lower Route to get to the falls. Feather Falls Scenic Trail - Lower Route is shorter, but steeper, and the Feather Falls Scenic Trail - Upper Route offers a few more views.

As mapped, this run gets the strenuous bits out of the way early, so you can feel good spending time enjoying the falls knowing the hardest parts are already finished.

Description

Starting at the parking area, follow the Feather Falls Scenic Trail - Lower Route through dense forest. Eventually, the trail splits about a quarter-mile from the parking lot. Take a left to continue on the Feather Falls Scenic Trail - Lower Route.

You'll cross a few creeks, the most prominent one being Frey Creek, which has a wooden bridge to help your passage. After the Feather Falls Scenic Trail - Upper Route joins on the right, you'll reach a nice overlook of the valley with Fall River. Continue and get to the observation platform at the end of the trail. This is a great place to take a break and just take in the waterfall for awhile.

Head back up and then take the Feather Falls Scenic Trail - Upper Route to get back to the parking lot.
