Runner Notes

The trail is pretty rocky and has some roots in places, so watch your step!

Description

From the split off of the Red Pine Lake Trail, the Maybird Lakes Trail crosses a small bridge over Red Pine Creek and starts to ascend through the forest and up a rocky trail. The first half mile or so ascends gradually as the trail wraps around the ridge between Maybird Gulch and Red Pine Canyon.

After this first half mile, the trail steepens as it starts to parallel the creek as it ascends toward the lakes. At this point, the trail narrows but stays distinguishable all the way up to the upper two Maybird Lakes. These lakes are small, but beautiful as they are surrounded by the gorgeous aretes that make up Maybird Gulch, and also have the magnificent Pfeifferhorn as a backdrop.

Flora & Fauna

Wildflowers of many kinds in the summer.
