Overview

While almost any running experience in the Virgin Islands will be a tour through Paradise, this easier loop is the perfect way to spend an afternoon. Not too long, and featuring gentle terrain, this loop will provide beautiful ocean views and leads visitors past two pristine beaches before returning through lush, tropical vegetation.

Runner Notes

Especially in the mornings and evenings, this is a great route for a shorter run with the added benefit of having two swimming beaches to stop and cool off at.

Description

Begin your outing from the Virgin Islands National Park Headquarters. Please be aware that parking is limited to one hour, so you may need to make other arrangements if you plan to be out for an extended period of time.

You'll begin your journey by heading north from the visitor center, leaving from the Lind Point Trail. You'll take this route in reverse, so head to the left (west) at the first intersection. The Lind Point Trail is an easier route, and by taking an initial left, you'll be able to enjoy stunning ocean vistas from this relaxed trail. Take your time as you wind through tropical vegetation, passing Lind Point along the way. You'll eventually make your way to a trail junction with the Caneel Hill Spur, just near Salomon Beach. You'll have the difficult choice of stopping to dip your toes in the warm waters of Salomon Beach or continuing on to the equally as stunning Honeymoon Beach.

Once you've had your fill of Salomon Beach, take the Caneel Hill Spur as it continues northeast. You'll be treated to more lovely beach views, and in a very short distance, you'll have reached Honeymoon Beach. This is another excellent place to wade, swim, or simply enjoy the sound of the waves as they make their way to the shore.

Once you've had your fill of the beaches, return to the southwest along the Caneel Hill Spur to its intersection with the Lind Point Trail. Instead of returning along the gentle beach-side trail, take the left, southern branch of the trail. This leg of the journey features a short but steady climb. The trail here will be a bit rocky, but nothing will be too difficult. You'll soon have views looking out over Cruz Bay.

If you time your journey properly, you can enjoy a full day at the various beaches along the way, and can also enjoy a spectacular sunset over Cruz Bay. Either way, you're in for an outing that won't soon be forgotten!
