Description

This doubletrack is popular with 4x4 enthusiasts, but would make for a scenic and less intense entrance into the national forest.

From North Traver Trail in Glenwood Springs, Transfer Trail immediately ascends at a steady and fairly steep grade. As you're ascending, be sure to look back to the mountains to the south. Views of Mount Sopris are especially epic from this vantage.

After approximately 8 miles, the road begins to flatten out, passing Haypress Lake, Flatiron Mountain, and Baxter Peak. From here, the road heads almost due directly north on a sparsely treed plateau. At its end, the trail intersects with FSR 601.
