Best times to use this trail are late September through June. Twice a year the Cross Timbers running group sponsors a trail run that effectively closes 12+ miles of the trail to others, though it doesn't prohibit trail access or use.

Runner Notes

Steep grades.

Description

The first half of the trail, beginning at Juniper Point trailhead, has many hills, making it a moderate running experience. Plenty of tree coverage and access to Lake Texoma, with access to Cedar Bayou Marina approximately three miles from Juniper Point. There are various primitive camping sites up to and including Eagle's Roost which is just over six miles from Juniper Point and is the highest elevation of the trail.

Descending from Eagle's Roost, the trail continues to wind its way through forested hills to Rock Creek Marina, then levels out and becomes a much easier run. There is less tree coverage on the second half of the trail, but still plenty of coverage.

After 12+ miles, the trail intersects with Paw Paw Creek Road, a rather dilapidated road that connects with Rock Creek Road. Turning "right" onto the causeway allows the runner to connect with the last approximately 1.5 miles of the trail that is largely unused, ending at the Texoma Marina trailhead.

Flora & Fauna

Pine, cedar, oak. Various wild flowers and grasses.

Clear stream leading into the Lake. The only 'quick' running clear water I found between West Juniper Point and Eagle Roost. Collected for boiling. A little steep to get to, use caution. @SynSurvival

It was super technical and tough. Nice day to be out. Leaves are covering up the trail, be careful with tree roots and sharp rocks! 10mi
