Runner Notes

As with all trails at Mammoth Cave, this is a multi-use trail with horses and other hikers/runners. Watch for horse manure.

Description

Starting at the intersection of the Collie Ridge Trail, the singletrack trail quickly descends for a fun, quick first half. About a mile in, there is a rather steep and rocky, rugged section and quickly goes back uphill in a steep and rocky fashion.

Bottoming out along a creek close to mile 2.5, the climb out is long, smooth and steady, and will work your quads. At the top of the climb, the trail has been modified, so follow the signs to your left to end at Maple Springs Loop Road. From here you can take the road back to the Maple Springs parking lot, or continue straight on the Maple Springs trail that loops back to the lot.

In the last two miles or so of the loop, it's the only solid water source along the Buffalo Creek-Collie Ridge loop. Pretty cold. Photo taken in early September.

A cool burl on an ascent, leaving the creek not too far back. Most of the trail from this point on is gravel and wider than singletrack.
